It's a complex beast and one that isn't easily simplified into a one pager.
But, I am hoping that the attached document might assist a few people to grapple with the basics.
And a reminder to providers:
You should NOT be charging the price limit unless you can justify it.
You should ALWAYS be tailoring the rate to the needs of the participant.
The price limit for STA/STR is based on 24 hours fully active support at high intensity rates with a modest allowance for accommodation and food etc.

If the participant doesn't require the highest level of active care, or has a night time sleepover (inactive), or is only supported for a few hours each day, then the daily rate should reflect the actual care given.
You should be costing every respite, not offering a fixed price.
